DAN SHEPARD | FOUNDER/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

I couldn’t find a firm that did business the way I thought it should be done… so I made one! I started Oak Road Wealth Management in 2016 to provide financial planning and investment management services as a fee-only fiduciary. That means our Kansas City area investment company doesn’t accept commissions or fees from any investment product or service provider. We hold ourselves out to always act in the best interest of our clients.

I’ve spent my whole career in the investment business. I spent 6 years on Wall Street in NYC, 5 years in Nashville, TN and the rest in KC. I learned a lot about how the business of investment management is done and figured out what I like about it and what I don’t. At my investment company in the Kansas City area, my mission is to help people gain confidence that they can achieve the retirement of their dreams. Whether you are responsible for your company’s retirement plan or responsible for your family’s retirement plan, I’d love the opportunity to meet with you to see if we can help!

I live on a small farm in Lee’s Summit, MO with my wife and our 7 children. We love traveling, spending time outdoors and chasing our kids around to all of their activities. I enjoy kayak racing and completed my first Missouri River 340 race in 2020 finishing 6th place in men’s solo.

BRENT MURFF | Chief Operating Officer

As the job title says, Brent works with clients to help them achieve financial independence. But for him, the job description goes deeper than that. Because what he loves most about what he does is forming lasting relationships with his clients and helping them achieve their goals. Of course, it’s no wonder that Brent truly cares about the people part of the business—before he got into finance, he was a nurse practitioner. He has taken the skills he learned in that career, and uses them in his current one, from listening and educating clients, to involving them in the process. When he’s not working, Brent loves being with his wife and three kids, playing sports, getting outdoors, and searching for that elusive balance between health/wellness and really great food.
