Well hello!  I’m Dan Shepard, Founder and President of Oak Road Wealth Management.  Welcome to my new blog!  I started Oak Road because I wanted to provide a better experience for investors. There’s a lot of bad information out there about what it takes to build wealth and create Financial Independence.  Wall Street and the financial media would have you believe that investing is so complicated that you are better off leaving it to the ‘professionals’ and not becoming a part of the process.  We believe in teaching and helping you to understand the how’s and the why’s.  Oak Road is about Simplicity, Transparency and Planning.  In this blog, we’ll spend time sorting through some of the noise so you can make better, more informed decisions.

A little about me.  I grew up on a farm in Hatton, MO just East of Columbia, MO.  I learned to take care of hogs and cattle and baled a lot of hay.  I went to MU and joined Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and majored in Agriculture Economics.  I met my wife Samantha and we moved to New York right after school and right before getting married.  We spent 7 years in New York, most of them in NYC.  I started as a Financial Advisor and moved over into Mutual Funds wholesaling.  In 2008 we returned home to the Kansas City area for a couple of years before taking a promotion and moving to Nashville, TN.  We lived there for 5 years and returned to Kansas City in 2015.  We now live on a small farm in Lee’s Summit with our three children, a dog and several cats and chickens.  We love being outdoors and taking care of animals, things are busy at our house!

I look forward to our conversations on this blog!  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with ideas, I get many of them from conversations I have with clients and friends.  Stay tuned for my next post where we will discuss: ‘Football’s Lesson in Diversification’.

So long for now…
