This weekend, I was listening to aa podcast interview with Seth Godin. He shared a quote that I thought was quite powerful. “Process saves us from the poverty from our intentions.”

That wasn’t actually his original quote. He credited it to Elizabeth King who was an American sculptor. It’s a very simple yet deep thought. To dive in a little bit and give you an example, we all want to get things done. Everybody at some point has probably said “Hey I want to get in shape.” But what do you do to get in shape? Well, you’re going to start exercising and eating better. Those are intentions, but intentions fail. We need to have a process.

People who successfully achieve those goals have a process. They say “I’m going to go to the gym three days a week. I’m going to walk x number of miles per day. I’m going to eat healthy, balanced meals instead of fast food.” They have a process that they change that protects them from the weakness of their intentions, because sometimes we wake up in the morning and don’t feel like going to the gym. But if you have that mindset and establish a process to get your health in order, it saves you from saying “Oh well this fried chicken looks really good so I guess I’ll just eat that.”

So, why do I bring this up? When you’re going to get in shape you may not know how to workout or what to eat. That’s when you go talk to a nutritionist or a personal trainer. When people say “Hey, I want to get my finances in order and I want to start saving for retirement” that’s still an intention. What is your process is going to be? A lot of people just don’t know what steps to take to do this. That’s where we come in and we help.

We have a financial planning process where we help you understand what you need to do to achieve your goals. We help you see how to save for retirement most efficiently by showing where you should put your retirement funds, how you should put it away and the process of how things should be invested and managed.

If you want to get past the intentions and have a process to set yourself up for your future, reach out to us. We would like to help you!
